Space exploration reaches another inspiring milestone as NASA’s SpaceX Crew-13 mission prepares for its journey to the International Space Station! Leading the flight is Dr. Jessica Watkins, who serves as the Spacecraft Commander—making her the first Black woman to hold this pivotal role on an operational NASA/SpaceX crewed mission to the ISS. This marks Dr. Watkins’ second trip to space. She previously made history in 2022 during SpaceX Crew-4 as the first Black woman to complete a long-duration mission on the space station, spending 170 days orbiting Earth and conducting vital scientific research. With a Ph.D. in Geology from UCLA and a background working on NASA's Curiosity Mars Rover team at JPL, Dr. Watkins brings world-class scientific expertise and leadership to orbit. Dr. Watkins is joined by pilot Luke Delaney, CSA astronaut Joshua Kutryk, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov.
